According to Fox Business News, Australia's retail sales rose in April on a seasonally adjusted basis. The Australia Bureau of Statistics reported last week that sales rose 1.1 percent compared with April 2010.  Sales dropped 0.3 percent in March 2011.

Purchases of food, clothing and footwear recorded the largest increases, while sales of household goods declined.
