Shoppers looking to have unique seasonal foods delivered to their doorstep need look no further than the latest brainchild of Walmart Labs: Goodies.
According to an article in the Seattle Times, Goodies customers get a box of five to eight hand-picked, sample-size food items, ranging from organic to ethnic products that are not currently carried on Walmart's shelves, for a monthly fee of $7. Walmart officially launched the service on Wednesday.
Shoppers can sign up for the service by going to the Goodies website, as well as purchase full-size versions of the products they receive in the sample-size. Walmart is also looking to use Goodies as a way to spot food trends in its stores, the article reported.
Ravi Raj, vice president of products at San Bruno, Calif.-based Walmart Labs, said it wanted to start a subscription service for food because it is "inherently very social."
"Walmart is the largest grocer but there's room for us to innovate," Raj said in the article. "People love to talk about new food products."
