NCR releases new version of self-checkout software

NCR has announced the latest release of its NCR SelfServ Checkout software, which delivers several new enhancements that will help retailers implement self-checkout lanes faster and lower the cost of managing self-checkout terminals.

The core of the new release is an improved integration framework that uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) technology to improve connection between the self-checkout solution and the retailer’s existing point-of-sale (POS) system. This new framework allows for expansions such as the addition of new payment types, including gift cards.

Another new feature, the NCR YourPOS Assist Mode, allows attendants to complete complex transactions on the self-checkouts such as tax-exempt sales, which were previously only available on the retailer’s traditional POS software.

The new version of SelfServ checkout software supports more than 40 different POS software environments from NCR and other vendors, allowing retailers to integrate their self-checkouts with their existing POS system faster and more economically without the need for customized middleware.
