What a difference a year makes: For much of last 2008, many celebrity fashion lines were flying high. But as the economy tanked, consumers fled in search of items with higher perceived value, leaving many celebrity brands vulnerable, especially when chains close. For example, when Steve & Barry's closed last November, lines by Sarah Jessica Parker, Amanda Bynes and Venus Williams collapsed, too. Given shoppers' love affair with celebrities, celebrity fashion lines will continue as a retail force, though individual players will come and go.
