Cub Foods, a part of the Supervalu family of grocery stores, is implementing a new program designed to make it easier for shoppers to make intelligent choices based on their nutritional needs.
The chain has launched the Nutrition iQ program, which was developed at the Joslin Clinic, a medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School. The program uses color-coded tags that convey nutritional information. The tags are hung on the shelves, right below the price. The company announced the launch in a press release.

The Nutrition iQ program comes as research shows that consumers are having difficulty making sense of nutrition guidelines and are looking for an easier way to make informed food choices for better health. For example, approximately three-in-five consumers think diet and nutrition are very important, yet more than half say they need practical tips to help them eat right and 41% don't know or understand nutrition guidelines, according to the American Dietetic Association. |  |
Cub is the second chain in the Supervalu group to receive the program; it follows Albertsons, which added the tags in January.
