StoreNext to offer the LaneHawk shrink-prevention system

StoreNext Retail Technologies, a division of Retalix, announced that it will distribute the LaneHawk bottom-of-basket scanning system. The company will offer the tool as an integrated option for its ISS45 and ScanMaster POS units.

The LaneHawk unit "combines video with patented object recognition technology to detect and identify items left in the bottom of checkout baskets during checkout," according to a press release.

That object recognition provides two benefits: It eliminates shrink from products that are left on the bottom of the basket either on purpose or inadvertently, and it also provides a customer experience benefit in that customers don't have to retrieve heavy items from the bottom of the cart.
