Gallery Furniture to refund $7M to customers after Seattle Super Bowl win

Feb. 4, 2014

Seattle's Super Bowl XLVIII win meant a great deal to more than 1,000 Houston families who purchased furniture from Gallery Furniture leading up to the game. Gallery Furniture storeowner, Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, will refund $7 million to customers who participated in the company′s Pig Skin Promotion No. 2.

In the days leading up to the game between Denver and Seattle, Gallery Furniture held the Pig Skin Promotion No. 2, where customers who purchased $6,000 or more in furniture would get back 100 percent of their purchase price if Seattle won. More than 1,000 families spent a total of $7 million on furniture from the Houston store.

"Our main focus for this promotion was to create a new generation of younger customers," said McIngvale. "Many millennials visited the store for the first time and expressed to us how impressed they were by the furniture and our selection, ultimately achieving our goal."

The uninsured Pig Skin Promotion No. 2 follows-up the store's first promotion held in January that offered a full refund to customers that purchased $5,000 or more of furniture and correctly predicted the winners of two championship football games. McIngvale refunded more than $600,000 to the winners of Pig Skin Promotion No. 1.

"I was not only surprised, I was shocked at the first promotion's results," said McIngvale. "I realized we'd made a lot of customers very happy which is why we did it again for the Super Bowl."

Gallery Furniture will hold a refund party for the winners of Pigskin Promotion No. 2 on Feb. 9 and Feb. 23. McIngvale will personally hand out refunds to the winners along with his congratulations.
