The PCI Security Standards Council has announced a new series of online training courses designed to help companies keep customer payment data secure and maintain compliance with PCI security standards.

The new "PCI Essentials" series, part of the PCI Security Awareness Education curriculum, will be released this spring. Its goal is to reduce the impact of threats to payment card security by equipping staff with the knowledge needed to protect data assets, the council said in its announcement about the series.

The program includes 10 interactive and immersive online modules, each focusing on a specific area of PCI security. Modules may be combined to provide appropriate training for all levels of employees.

"It's important that organizations continuously assess payment security and maintain their defenses against malicious breaches, as fraud takes no holidays," said PCI SSC GM Bob Russo. "Every employee has a stake in this effort, and it's part of the council's mission to educate them to accomplish it."

The new courses will be available through the council's longtime training partner Security Innovation.

Additionally, the council said, it will release "PCI 3.0 Insider's Guide" next week. This new eLearning course provides a comprehensive review of the intent, interpretation and implementation of major changes in the newest version of the PCI Data Security Standard, version 3.0, the council said in the release.
