Sears Canada is officially the country's first department store to put a fully transactional mobile website online as it recently launched its apps for iPhone and Android smartphones, according to a company press release.

Canadian consumers now have instant access to the more than 80,000 products available on its website at Sears.ca. Customers can browse, research and purchase Sears products on their smartphones in English or French, Sears Canada President and CEO Calvin McDonald said in the statement.

"With these applications we are introducing a new way for Canadian families to engage with us," he said.

In addition to enabling purchases, the apps are loaded with special features including exclusive offers and daily deals, and make it easy for customers to find the closest Sears retail, specialty or order pick-up location.

In the stores, smartphone users can scan QR codes to access additional product information, reviews and videos.

Customers using the app will also gain early access to the weekly flyer as well as instant updates from Sears Canada's mobile Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
