Feb. 10, 2014

Mobile commerce platform provider Shopgate has acquired MagCorp, a four-person team developing applications for open-source e-commerce platform Magento.

Magento is operated by eBay subsidiary X.commerce (www.x.com) and used by 150,000 e-merchants worldwide. The MagCorp team will join Shopgate’s existing 132 employees at its campus in Butzbach, Germany.

Shopgate said the MagCorp team has worked for several German start-up companies including Berlin-based Glossybox, online clothing retailer Luxodo, online car dealership Autoda and online sporting goods retailer mysportgroup.

Shopgate develops customized apps and mobile sites for online shops. The company says 5,200 merchants in five countries use its services.

Shopgate was founded in Butzbach, Germany and Palo Alto, California by Andrea Anderheggen and Ortwin Kartmann.

MagCorp is Shopgate's first, but not last acquisition. The company says it is on the lookout for more companies to acquire.
