NEW YORK — At this morning's keynote at the NRF show, Walmart CEO Bill Simon announced that beginning Memorial Day, Walmart will offer a job to any honorably discharged U.S. military veteran within the first 12 months after their discharge.

"We know not every veteran wants to work in retail, and that's okay," he said. "But every veteran that does will have a job."

Simon, himself a 25-year veteran of the Navy and Navy Reserve, said veterans have an inherent set of skills and a work ethic that make them valuable retail employees.

"We could be the ones that step up for our heroes just as they stood up for us, and we can do this now," he said.
