In the last ten years, Open Source Software (OSS) has become a major force and enabler in the technology world.
This truly disruptive “community-built” technology includes Linux (a free operating system) as well as many applications, such as OpenOffice.org (a free MS Office competitor from Sun Microsystems), Apache (the web server that powers 80% of the Web), MySQL (the database that powers RT and most other web applications), and PHP (the language RT is written in). EnQii is very much OSS-based company.
1. Our RT servers are Linux-based. This means high stability and great flexibility.
2. Our client (the RemotePlayer) is Linux-based too.
3. We use OSS software development tools and operating systems on development and test servers.
4. We use the fact that we are OSS-based to commercial advantage: potential customers with technical expertise tend to like the stability and cost effectiveness that comes with open standards, OSS, Linux, etc.
