Often times the question is asked, "Kiosks make sense for our stores, but how can we justify the investment?" The answer is to find a low cost device, with a versatile feature set, that can multi-task, and be more than just a one-dimensional tool. In the past, kiosks have typically been reserved for price checking. If the kiosk can be used for several purposes in the store, the ROI becomes much more clear.
To truly justify the investment, retailers should start by looking for ways to improve the customer experience by not only making shopping more convenient, but by avoiding potentially frustrating episodes before they occur. Also, look for ways to take advantage of the fact that consumers are becoming more and more accustomed to immediate access to information thanks to smart phone technology and internet access virtually everywhere. People are not afraid to use technology. Give it to them, but where possible, control the content that it delivers.
Look for ways to influence the buying decision while the customer is in the store:
● Offer added convenience.
● Mitigate frustration.
● Give them controlled-content information they can use to initiate a purchase.
