Macy's taps new strategies, including music, to spur consumer interest

May 10, 2016

Macy's "American Icons" summer campaign includes new fashions, all-star musical talent and joining forces with a coalition of veteran-focused nonprofit called Got Your 6, according to an announcement. The music festival, called "Macy's Summer Vibes," will feature top names including Adam Lambert and Thalia Sodi. Lambert is the newest brand ambassador for the I.N.C. International Concepts brand.

"This year, American Icons is all about the celebration of music and we're offering a medley of different experiences for customers to get involved," said Martine Reardon, Macy’s CMO, in the announcement. "In our advertising campaign, we pay tribute to locations rich with music history, such as New Orleans and Memphis, as well as some of the hottest musical talent today. We will also be hosting our first digital music festival on YouTube, which benefits Got Your 6, Macy’'s charity partner that supports military veterans."

Another new limited edition clothing brand is a partnership with Lady Gaga and Sir Elton John. The Love Bravery line is aimed at inspiring compassion and fighting prejudice and 25 percent of product proceeds will benefit the Born This Way Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The digital music festival, taking place on YouTube, kicks off on Thursday, June 2 at 8 p.m.

For every online view of the festival through June 19, Macy's will donate $1, up to $100,000, to Got Your 6, the national veteran nonprofit campaign that empowers veterans to become leaders, team builders and problem solvers in their local communities.

There will also be in-store music festivals throughout June and even DJ instruction for kids.
