Activists using online gift registry to help victims of Hurricane Sandy

Online gift registry is a much-loved and often-used tool for getting the right gifts into the hands of newlyweds and graduates. Now, it's also being used to get emergency resources to people impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

According to a report from WBUR in Boston, three friends created the "Occupy Sandy" gift registry and Twitter account this past weekend. The group is using two Brooklyn churches as command centers for distribution, and using Amazon's Wish List feature to spell out exactly what is needed — primarily, generators, tools and anything that can be used to produce heat.
