Amazon.com opened its seventh Texas fulfillment center, this one in Harris County, near Houston.
"With Houston's legacy as a pioneer in innovation and exploration, we are proud to become a member of the community with the announcement of a new fulfillment center in the region," Akash Chauhan, Amazon's VP of North American operations, said in a press release. "We are excited to create more than 1,000 full-time jobs and to become a member of the business community."
Employees at the 855,000-square-foot center will handle smaller items including books, electronics and toys.
"In addition to the positive economic impact it has made across the state, Amazon is a strong corporate partner that is deeply involved in local communities," said Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner R. Jack Cagle. "We look forward to working together to grow our region's economy and provide jobs to area residents."
