Amazon is expanding its Amazon Key grocery delivery service to reach more customers' garages. The program initially launched offering delivery to car trunks and well as inside customer's homes.

The service expansion begins Tuesday in more than 5,000 U.S. cities, according to a CNBC report, and was initially only available to customers in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

The Amazon Key delivery program was created to help protect deliveries from theft and damage due to weather. The expansion comes on the heels of competitor Walmart launching a "smart cooler" porch delivery service for grocery orders and increasing online grocery ordering by consumers given the pandemic.
