American Apparel lays off 3,400 after sell-off

January 19, 2017

American Apparel laid off 3,400 workers Monday following a bankruptcy sale to Gildan Activeware.

Gildan, based in Canada, acquired equipment, merchandise and the brand but not American Apparel's manufacturing sites or the 110 stores, according to a New York Post report.

"They are completely dismantling the company to zero," American Apparel's founder, Dov Charney told the Post. Charney left the company three years ago.
