In honor of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, retailer Big Lots is partnering with the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio to show support for veterans.

Big Lots will raise funds for the second year in a row via an in-store and online donation effort running through May 31, according to a press release.

All proceeds will directly benefit the memorial and museum and its programming, while also supporting active military, veterans and their families.

Big Lots customers who donate at checkout can also demonstrate support by handwriting notes as well for a veteran or military hero in their lives. These notes will displayed in Big Lots stores across the country on a dedicated wall in the days leading up to the Memorial Day holiday.

Big Lots and its customers have raised more than $1.4 million for the memorial and museum with a goal of raising an additional $1.4 million this year. Additionally, the Big Lots Foundation is a founding donor to the memorial and museum, having committed $2.5 million in 2018.

"On the heels of a highly successful campaign last year, we are delighted to continue our partnership with the National Veterans Memorial and Museum," Bruce Thorn, CEO and president, said in the release. "As a veteran myself, I know how important this cause is, and the significance it has for associates and customers throughout our Big Lots family. We are honored to play our part in recognizing the brave men and women who gave and continue to give their lives serving our country."
