Colonial Jewelers, founded in Westminster, Maryland in 1920, is debuting its second logo in 70 years, according to a press release.

Owner Sarah Hurwitz Robey describes the logo as a more modern version of Colonial's signature crown icon with an elegant new font.

"As a fourth generation jewelry store, part of our identity will always be our legacy," Robey said in the release. "But one of the main reasons we have grown into the area's largest single source for fine jewelry and custom-designed pieces is that we have continually tried new things."

The logo is is just the first revamp effort taking place. The retailer will debut a new website this summer and in undertaking a new and modern in-store renovation and experience next fall. Colonial is partnering with local marketing agency, ArachnidWorks,, another downtown business, to develop their new brand identity.

"Colonial Jewelers is an iconic downtown Frederick business that is both historic and leading edge," ArachnidWorks President and CEO Monica Kolbay said in the release. "Sarah has a very clear and exciting vision for the company's future and the kind of experience she wants Colonial Jewelers' customers to have, so it's been a pleasure for our creative team to help her achieve that."
