A hefty number of consumers view "fast delivery" as arriving in two days or less, and 63% will switch retailers if they don't get purchased items in that time frame.

Those are top findings from a OnTrac study that also revealed the availability of next-day and same-day overwhelmingly driving consumers to make a purchase from a retailer.

Slow delivery has caused 63% of consumers to switch retailers, 60% to not purchase again from a retailer and 43% to abandon a cart or stop shopping with that retailer, according to a press release on the findings.

OnTrac commissioned the study from Hanover Research and polled 5,000 on shopping behaviors and preferences.

"Faster delivery has become the standard. Consumers are expecting to have their items delivered within two days, and retailers that can't keep up will lose business," Josh Dinneen, chief commercial officer of OnTrac, said in the release. "As retailers seek to differentiate themselves and rebuild brand loyalty, those that provide faster home delivery can win more customers and increase share of wallet."
