The tariffs enacted since the start of the year have cost the typical American consumer household about $1,200, according to figures cited by Democrats serving on the Joint Economic Committee.
The report reveals tariffs are driving prices higher for U.S. consumers, according to an AP News report on the tariff impact data.
"This report shows that (Trump's) tariffs have done nothing but drive prices even higher for families," Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, the top Democrat on the economic committee, told AP News. "At a time when both parties should be working together to lower costs, the president's tax on American families is simply making things more expensive."
