Instacart brings same-day grocery delivery service to Boston

December 12, 2013

Same-day grocery delivery service Instacart, which currently operates in San Francisco and Chicago, announced today that it has expanded into the Boston market.

The company uses a "crowd-sourced labor force" dubbed "personal shoppers" to shop for and deliver grocery orders, using their own vehicles. The site acts as a matchmaking service between at-home shoppers and those willing to fetch and deliver the goods, and is not affiliated with the retailers being shopped.

In June, Instacart raised $8.5M in Series A funding and announced its intention to expand to 10 additional major cities by the end of 2014. Chicago and now Boston are the first of those ten cities. Instacart said it has experienced double-digit month-over-month growth since launching in both San Francisco and Chicago.
