According to TheWrap, YouTube will launch a movie-on-demand streaming service as early as next week.
TheWrap reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Brothers and Universal have all signed on for the new service, as well as independent studio, Lionsgate.
"We've steadily been adding more and more titles since launching movies for rent on YouTube over a year ago, and now have thousands of titles available," a YouTube spokesperson said. "Outside of that, we don't comment on rumor or speculation."
The service would be the biggest studio video-on-demand deal since Apple’s iTunes rental service in January 2008.
Details regarding the cost of the service were not available.
