Kroger has updated its employee work apparel requirements and is mandating all employees wear company-issue shirts.

Prior, store and company employees could wear their own selected apparel. The rule applies to the company's 400,000 employees and the company is providing blue, red and black shirts and polos. Managers must wear button-down shirts or quarter-zip jackets, according to an Inc. report that cited a Bloomberg story.

"The uniform refresh came directly from customer and associate feedback, and it is just one part of the ways we're improving the shopping experience," a company spokesperson told Inc.

The work apparel has been rolled out at more than 2,000 of the company's stores in 35 states, according to Bloomberg.
