Half of consumers have abandoned a potential purchase online or in store in the last six months due to not finding sufficient information on the product and 35% returned a purchase as it didn't meet expectations based on content provided before purchase.

Those are top findings of a Syndigo report, "The State of Product Content 2024." Syndigo is a software-as-a-service commerce data management provider.

The study also revealed 83% of global respondents would abandon an e-commerce site that provided insufficient product information, according to a press release on the findings.

Seventy-three percent said they'd think less of a brand if they find incomplete or inaccurate information about its products online—an increase of 11% from one year ago.

"Product content is hugely influential in guiding consumers' decision-making processes from purchase decisions to building brand loyalty, all underscored by the demand for unparalleled customer experiences," Simon Angove, Syndigo CEO, said in the release. "This research shows that businesses around the world can unlock the value of their product data to accelerate sales by delivering richer, more engaging product content."
