Lenovo, VeriFone offer new tablet POS

May 2, 2012

Computer maker Lenovo and point-of-sale provider VeriFone Systems Inc. are joining forces to offer a new mobile POS based on Lenovo's ThinkPad and running a custom version of VeriFone's PAYware Mobile Enterprise for Tablet payment solution. The solution gives retailers the ability to configure, customize and manage an end-to-end point of sale platform that delivers a more efficient and flexible alternative than stationary cash registers, the companies said.

"The end result (of the new POS solution) is a versatile and secure mobile platform that increases customer transaction speed and helps advance retail shopping to a new level of personal service," said Dilip Bhatia, VP of Lenovo's ThinkPad Business Unit, Lenovo.

The new product features remote management and device tracking, even giving users the ability to check status on individual units or remotely wiping and resetting devices.

"Mobile solutions are enabling retailers to reimagine the point of sale," said Jennifer Miles, VeriFone's EVP for North America. She said the new solution makes it possible to engage customers in the aisle or wherever goods are being sold.
