Bloomberg reports that Lowe's is reacting to Home Depot's move last year which put Motorola mobile devices in its employees' hands – by handing out iPhones to its people.
In addition to a new online tool that will act as a sort of digital locker for customers' paint colors and user manuals, the company is giving 42,000 iPhone 4s to employees, to help answer customer questions on the floor.
The report says that both Lowe's and Home Depot are saturated in many markets, and both are turning to technology to find ways to wring as much profit and growth as possible from existing stores.
