Macy's is upping its minimum wage to $15 by Spring, 2022 and is establishing an educational benefit that will pay full tuition, books and fees all in a quest to lure new hires.
The news comes at a time the retail industry is facing a severe worker shortage just a month before its busiest sales season.
The retailer is partnering with Guild Education on the educational benefit, according to a CNBC report. Available benefits will include bachelor degrees, professional certificates as well as English language learning, and is expected to cost the retailer $35 million in the next four years, according to the news report.
"This program removes a major barrier to accessing education and will help our colleagues to further develop their skills and grow their careers and earning potential," Danielle Kirgan, chief transformation and human resources officer, told the news outlet.
