A hefty number of consumers, 83%, said they can spot an AI-generated video and that such videos lower brand trust.

Those are findings from an Animoto "2026 State of Video Report," that revealed marketers face a risk alienating audiences when AI generated content doesn't match what viewers want — authentic storytelling.

"Video has become the heartbeat of modern marketing, helping people learn, shop, and connect with brands," Beth Forester, CEO of Animoto, said in a press release regarding the findings.. "With the rise of AI, marketers can supercharge how they create and scale video, but they also risk eroding the authenticity that builds trust."

Overall, nearly 83% of consumers have watched a video they suspected was AI-generated, with the biggest giveaways cited as robotic gestures (67%), unnatural voices (55%), and lack of emotional tone (51%).

A majority of consumers (82%) said video is the most memorable form of content, and 86% prefer to learn about a brand through video. And more than two thirds, 83%, of consumers have bought something after watching a brand video.
