Nearly half, 42% of online retailers plan to expand technology investment this year, and a majority are optimistic about revenue growth.

Those are top findings from a CommerceNext survey conducted with Forrester Research that polled senior executives at 113 enterprise-sized consumer e-commerce businesses.

More than half (56%) of retailers surveyed saw their online revenue increase year over year in the fourth quarter, while 34% saw a decrease, according to a press release.

"It's been a tumultuous period for e-commerce since 2020, with many highs and lows," CommerceNext co-founder Scott Silverman said in the release. "Our industry is ready to return to a sense of normalcy and steady growth. This fresh data shows that we're headed in that direction."

More than four in 10 survey respondents (42%) plan to invest in areas such as hiring, marketing, and technology and infrastructure upgrades.
