Newegg debuts ‘group buy’ special deal feature

Electronics retailer Newegg has launched a 'group buy' program to reward members who join forces to unlock special daily deals.

The locked daily deal requires a minimum number of customers to show interest to unlock the special price, according to a press release.

Customers in the queue immediately receive an email to claim the offer before the end of the following day. Customers who join after the deal has been unlocked can buy it immediately while supplies last.

Those in the virtual queue can click a button to share the Group Buy offer with their friends or family through social media or by texting a link to encourage others to also join the digital queue, moving the deal steps closer to being unlocked for everyone in the queue.

"Group Buy is a way for customers to get surprising, 'doorbuster' quality deals that they can share and help unlock when their friends also join," Kidd Liu, senior director of business systems development for Newegg, said in the release. "We believe that communal shopping in the digital space will become more popular, and we want Group Buy to foster the movement and be a fun and engaging activity that benefits everyone involved."

Newegg expects to offer a Group Buy each day during the holiday sales and into the future.
