Online grocery action sees uptick in fresh food purchases

December 5, 2018

Consumers are increasingly ordering groceries online and more than ever are purchasing fresh food items, according to a study from The Retail Feedback Group.

In regard to satisfaction, Amazon and Walmart are leading the pack, according to a press release on the 2018 U.S. Online Grocery Shopper Study.

The data reveals about half of online shoppers will buy grocery items more often in the next year and Amazon is garnering top satisfaction marks with a 4.7 rating out of 5.0 scale.

"With an ever-increasing number of online grocery shopping options, consumers are clearly responding and purchasing a wide range of items. The willingness to purchase fresh items in higher frequencies than last year illustrates that providers are improving in their ability to overcome objections that historically have been limiters in these areas. While there is still room for growth, this finding provides encouraging news for retailers and others offering online food shopping services," said Brian Numainville, RFG principal, in the release.
