OpenSky unveils 'distributed secure checkout'

May 26, 2010

OpenSky has announced a secure checkout technology that can be distributed to any site, allowing OpenSky Sellers to integrate shopping seamlessly throughout their content.

According to a company release, the new OpenSky Cart offers a purchase process that flows naturally with the consumption of web content. The company says it has solved the pervasive and disjointed shopping experience of leaving a content site to make a purchase, the nuisance of visiting a destination retailer, the unknowns of affiliate retailers, or any experience that removes the consumer from engaging content. Additionally, the OpenSky Cart functions across all OpenSky Sellers, so that shoppers can use one cart to checkout across any seller within the OpenSky community.

“OpenSky is about strengthening the connections between people and making shopping more convenient,” said John Caplan, founder and CEO of OpenSky. “As of today, shoppers can buy goods directly from the person they trust most. They can stay engaged with their favorite content and make a purchase without ever leaving the content.”

OpenSky Sellers can merchandise their favorite goods by inserting a “buy from me” button or link as easily as they would insert a hyperlink. The tight integration keeps consumers involved in the original content longer, simultaneously driving page-views, engagement and commerce.

The OpenSky platform enables bloggers and trusted experts to sell unique products they love without worrying about inventory, customer service, shipping or transaction technology. OpenSky’s growing catalog hosts more than a thousand manufacturers that have been recommended by tastemakers and sourced by OpenSky. These products can be sold by any OpenSky Seller.
