Shoe retailer Payless is partnering with Vtex, a marketplace and e-ommerce solution, in a quest to drive digital growth.

Vtex now powers commerce for Payless in the U.S. as well as Latin American markets, according to a press release. Payless LATAM initially plans to ship 100% of its orders from its brick-and-mortar store locations to reduce order delivery times.

"We are betting on the omnichannel approach because we want to take advantage of our 450 stores with exceptional locations. Many people select the shoes in e-commerce, but prefer to go to the store to try them on, where they tend to buy additional items," Justo Fuentes, CEO of Payless, LATAM, said in the release.

Payless is dedicating 30% of its collections to e-commerce to drive online digital sales, and intends to diversify its product offering. It is planning on creating a digital store with up to 10,000 product lines, a big spike from the 800 lines a physical store can manage.

"Payless is making a comeback in a big way, and we're proud that our commerce solutions are helping drive growth for an iconic brand in unprecedented times," Amit Shah, U.S. general manager and chief strategy officer at Vtex, said in the release. "With commerce evolving faster than it ever has, it's important for brands to operate more efficiently, scale quickly and pivot at any moment — and this is what Vtex helps Payless do."
