PayPal to enter daily deal space with mobile product

December 13, 2011

A report from Bloomberg said that PayPal will be moving into the daily deal space to compete head-to-head with Groupon Inc. and LivingSocial.com.

PayPal's hook will be that its deals will be mobile. Offers will be delivered to users' smartphones based upon their buying habits and their mobile phone location. In other words, the new service will push targeted offers to shoppers as they shop in or around a participating store's location.

"The experience is going to be completely different than anyone else’s through and through," PayPal's president Scott Thompson told Bloomberg. “We’ll only give you something that we think fits the category of unique and relevant. Everyone else is going to bombard you."

According to the post, the mobile deals product will launch in Q1 2012.
