According to the Sun-Sentinel, Publix Super Markets Inc. is changing its coupon policy, placing restrictions on which ones it will accept.
The company announced the new policy on May 11, in what seems to be a response to rising food prices and a growing coupon clipping trend.
Starting May 23, Publix stores will no longer accept coupons from stores such as CVS and Walgreens for any items other than prescriptions. The grocery chain also only will accept competitors' coupons for identical items. Individual stores will post lists of which competitors' coupons will be accepted.
Publix also will reserve the right to limit quantities of items purchased with coupons, and it generally, won't accept coupons from competitors more than a few miles away.
The company said most of the changes are being implemented to create consistency.
"We wanted to make sure all stores are doing similar things," said spokesman Dwaine Stevens. "It's going to be more of a manageable process."
