A Genesys study reveals that while more consumers intent to shop in physical stores this upcoming Black Friday, the number of those avoiding shopping on the day after Thanksgiving remains big.

Two percent more of shoppers, 39%, will be hitting a physical retail store this year, compared to last, but 61% plan to avoid shopping in a physical retail environment for several reasons: Stores are too busy, price cuts aren’t worth the effort, online shopping is easier, better deals happen at other times in the year and customer service is below standard.

But one of the most challenging statistics from the study is that 28% of consumers used to shop on Black Friday, but have now stopped and 33% never go shopping on the infamous shopping day.

Of those planning to shop, millennials are the largest age group planning to go into physical stores (51%). That reflects a "significant drop" from the 60% last year, according to a press release.
