Top retail leaders, including those from CVS, Target, Dollar General and Best Buy, are calling on Congress to stop the increasing rash of smash-and-grab criminals across the nation.

The retail executives sent a letter last week to lawmakers to pass a consumer act which would make it harder for stolen goods to be sold, according to a New York Post report.

"As millions of Americans have undoubtedly seen on the news in recent weeks and months, retail establishments of all kinds have seen a significant uptick in organized crime in communities across the nation," the Retail Industry Leaders Association said in its missive to lawmakers.

The increasing crimes have made their way into retailer earnings calls, according to the news report.
