Retailers commit to 'Customer Bill of Rights'

On Monday, a number of large retailers met with the Rev. Al Sharpton, and agreed to publish and abide by a Customer Bill of Rights. The meeting, and the document, come in the wake of a number of retail-related scandals involving racial profiling of shoppers.

According to the New York Post, Barneys, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and the Gap were among the retailers in attendance — several of which are currently on the receiving end of class-action lawsuits related to the alleged profiling.

"[Store Name] is committed to ensuring that all shoppers, guests, and employees are treated with respect and dignity and are free from unreasonable searches, profiling, and discrimination of any kind in our store," the document begins. You can read the full text of the agreement below.
