Retailers on a hiring hunt

August 13, 2018

Retailers added 96,000 jobs in the past 12 months and a low unemployment rate, not seen in nearly 50 years, is spurring new hiring strategies such as hiring on more part-time workers and transitioning contractors to full-time positions.

Jobs abound even for workers without a high school degree, according to an ABC News report.

The business sector added 157,000 jobs in July, a slight dip from the average of 215,000 in the initial seven months of this year, and the unemployment rate dipped to 3.9 percent, from 4 percent.

Increased consumer spend and companies ramping investment in equipment and real estate are reasons for the hiring wave, stated the report.

"This job growth is nothing to be disappointed about, particularly at this stage of the recovery," Martha Gimbel, director of economic research at job search website Indeed, told ABC News.
