Tortoise, a Mountain View, California-based robotic delivery provider, has introduced a vehicle that carries vending machines to serve consumers at events, according to a sfgate.com report. The remote controlled robots are called Tortoise Smart Stores.

The company installed a card reader on a container lid to allow consumers to open the lid by tapping their credit card, enabling them to remove product from the machine.

The unit can also play audio messages.

The company plans to offer the units in New York City, London, Los Angeles San Diego, Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Santa Cruz, Missouri and South Carolina.

The Mini Donuts Company in San Diego and the Go Grocer supermarket chain in Chicago have signed up as partners to market their products, according to a Mashables report. The company charges partners that utilize the robots 10% of the sales.
