It's an ultra-convenient concept that works for quick-service restaurants and oil change parlors, so why not retail? The Chicago Tribune reports that retailers Sears and Meijer have begun experimenting with the drive-through concept in several area stores.
In the case of Sears, the company took an old Kmart location and turned it into a drive-through warehouse called MyGofer. Walmart has recently followed suit.
"This is our first shot at this," said Rob Fleener, vice president of business development at Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer. "There are a lot of things we'll do to improve this once we decide to roll it out. Right now, we're learning as much as we can."
Wal-Mart hasn't sent out any marketing materials to let shoppers know about the drive-through site, but instead is quietly testing it as customers ask about it.
