Sears will close its last traditional store in Illinois on Nov. 14, though nearly a dozen related brand locations will remain up and running.
The Sears Holding company was acquired by Transformco three years ago and the owner intends to focus on the brand's e-commerce channel and a home services business, according to a KCTV5 report. Illinois is where Sears opened its first store in 1925.
"We intend to reinvigorate and maximize the value of the real estate while enhancing the consumer experience with popular retailers that fit the regional draw of Woodfield Mall," Scott Carr, president of real estate for Transformco, told the news outlet.
There are 11 Sears Hometown Stores in Illinois and 300 Sears and Kmart stores open in the U.S.
