Sheetz launches branded rewards debit card

November 9, 2010

Sheetz, one of the fastest growing, family-owned convenience stores in the world, with more than 380 locations across six states, is now offering customers a Tempo-powered rewards debit card that links to consumers’ existing checking accounts. The Sheetz Rewards Debit Cards are issued by Tempo partner First Bank & Trust of Brookings, SD, part of Fishback Financial Corporation, and can be used everywhere Discover cards are accepted.

Shoppers using the Sheetz Rewards Debit Card for purchases at Sheetz locations will earn discounts on gasoline purchases, as well as cash-back for purchases at millions of other retailers nationwide. Sheetz is using Tempo’s web-based debit card platform to offer its own branded debit cards and provide a web portal for consumers to apply for and activate cards, as well as track purchases and rewards.

"Debit cards increasingly are the preferred payment choice of customers and we know they value rewards for purchases, so we’re very pleased to offer this innovative debit card," said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing, Sheetz Inc. "Tempo has consistently advanced the use of affinity debit cards and its technology along with the Discover payment network makes our program very easy to implement and convenient for our customers."

Since 1952, Sheetz has grown from a small dairy/deli in Altoona, PA, to one of the fastest growing, family-owned convenience stores in the world, with more than more than 13,000 employees at more than 380 locations across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. Every time customers use the Sheetz Rewards Debit Card at a Sheetz location, they will earn a discount of 2 cents per gallon off at the pump on their next gasoline purchase.
