Shoppers expect to spend more this holiday, exceed budgets

December 7, 2016

Retailers will be happy to hear this news: nearly 60 percent of Americans expect to exceed holiday budgets by an average of $155, an 11 percent spike over spending increase in 2015.

The insight, from a new Coinstar study, reveals 72 percent of gift fivers are on board to sacrifice on personal spend, such as dining out, to spend more on family and friends.

"With the winter holiday season comes the excitement of giving and exchanging gifts, but many of us discover it’s not easy to stick to a budget and end up overspending," said lifestyle and trend expert, Justine Santaniello, founder and creative director of JustHaves.com, in a release regarding the study.
