In an effort to handle increasing sales, both online and in the store, Target is expanding its logistics footprint across the U.S.
The retailer plans to develop four regional distribution centers. It opened two last summer, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Target aims to spend $4 to $5 billion in capital spend each year for the next several years, according to the news report.
The retailers supply chain network currently is at 49 centers across 23 states.
"Before last year, we hadn't added a new regional distribution center in over a decade, even as our total sales grew 40% over that same time period," COO John Mulligan said during the company's recent earnings conference call.
