Target is boosting its starting wage to $15 a bit earlier than expected in a quest to help support employees during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The department store's previous starting hourly salary was $13 an hour. The higher wage goes into effect July 5, according to a New York Post report.
The increased pay, announced in 2017, was initially set to go into effect at the end of this year. The retailer is also doling out $200 bonus pay to specific frontline workers.
"Everything we aspire to do and be as a company builds on the central role our team members play in our strategy, their dedication to our purpose and the connection they create with our guests and communities," Target Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell said in a statement.
