Target opening pop-up shops for the holidays

December 7, 2009

Target announced that it is opening three "Target To-Go" stores, limited-time stores that each will contain 50 gift items from toy, gadget, home décor, beauty and fashion categories.

The New York location can be found at Gansevoort and Washington streets; in San Francisco, shoppers can find the store at Mint Plaza, on 5th Street between Market and Mission; and in Washington D.C., the store is located at M Street NW and Wisconsin Avenue NW in Georgetown.

The stores are also being used to debut new designer offerings, where they will be available for one week before they make their way into regular Target locations. Designers Marcel Wanders and Sonia Kashuk are included in this strategy.

From the press release:

Shopping is as easy as 1, 2, 3: Guests can pick out gifts, order by number and take them to go. All gifts come wrapped and ready to place under the tree. To make the shopping events even more special, shoppers in each Target To-Go city will have the chance to win up to $500 in Target GiftCards — a gift that also gives back to The Salvation Army through an accompanying donation.

"This holiday, we wanted to give our urban markets a little slice of Target," said Shawn Gensch, vice president of marketing for Target. "We're always trying to reach our guests in new and interesting ways, and Target To-Go gives time-starved city dwellers a joyful, convenient and affordable holiday shopping experience."
