Target plans to reduce its corporate workforce by approximately 1,800 jobs. The workforce move will layoff 1,000 workers and 800 open roles will not be filled.

The news comes months before a new CEO takes the helm in early 2026.

The job losses represent 8% of the company's global corporate positions, according to a New York Times report citing a memo from incoming CEO and current COO Michael Fiddelke.

The job reduction is part of a restructuring strategy to boost management and speed up adoption of new technology.

"The truth is, the complexity we've created over time has been holding us back," Fiddelke, wrote in the memo, according to the news report. "Too many layers and overlapping work have slowed decisions, making it harder to bring ideas to life."
